A day at Sharadha Devi Anbu Illam
We always envy others, and spend our whole life time being grumpy about things we wish to have. We bet that, your melancholic manner will change, if you visit this lovely Sharadha Devi Anbu Illam.
Our team planned to visit this home on a Sunday (3rd July, 2016) as this is the day when kids have lots of spare time to explore their inner abilities. So, we decided to steal some of their timings to add more happiness and surprises.
We reached the venue at 12 noon, and were greeted by the Supervisors. As it was a kid’s care home, we expected it to be noisy & kids running out here & there. But to our surprise, the place was very calm and we were the ones who were making noise. For a moment we wondered if we had come to a children’s home or a temple.
We slowly took our steps into the hall & saw the kids there, waiting for us. There were 17 male kids between the ages 5 – 10. Our hearts turned heavy on thinking how could one abandon these cute & cuddly kid’s from their family.
We also had a few members, out of our office, who helped in coordinating the day’s events. The event started with a prayer & distribution of gifts including school bags & rain coats, which we got for them. We also had a fabulous meal for them.
The supervisor made the kids sit in rows, and served the meal that we got for them. When each dish was served, the kids did not even place a finger in them. They patiently, recited the Brahmarpanam prayer (it’s a prayer before food) and only then touched the food. It was a big surprise for us to see such disciplined kids.
In excitement, we asked them if they liked the food, they responded yes with their naughty smiles & twinkling eyes. Upon their insistence, we also had lunch with them. Post lunch, we had a chat with them, some were talkative & others were shy. But we are sure, that next time when we visit this home, we will have many more good tiny friends there.
Bearing in mind, the innocent faces of those kids, we started back to our houses, awaiting the next instance, when we could meet them!
